Uniform for Worth

Worth is a Benedictine boarding and day school for 11 to 18 year old boys. It is situated alongside Worth Abbey and set in 500 acres of beautiful Sussex countryside, only 12km from Gatwick airport and 50km from central London.

The school lives out the Benedictine ethos, valuing the individual and fostering a community life of learning, worship, friendship and service. We offer pupils a high level of pastoral care and combine traditional values with modern approaches to teaching and learning. Whilst the schools culture is traditionally catholic, we welcome students from a diversity of Christian backgrounds.

At Worth we offer a broad curriculum both at GCSE and in the sixth form, where students may opt to take either A levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Our examination results reflect the schools high academic standards and are a result of the industry and commitment of both the teaching staff and the students. The majority of leavers gain places at university and each year, a significant proportion are accepted into Oxford and Cambridge.

We have recently invested heavily in upgrading our buildings and facilities, including the complete renovation of a number of boarding houses. Gervase House was opened in September 2002, incorporating individual en-suite study bedrooms for the upper sixth and a new sixth form centre. Sports pitches have been laid and classrooms refurbished. Other recent developments include the introduction of interactive white-boards in all departments, these provide a new and exciting dimension to teaching and have been welcomed by students and staff. Worth has an outstanding reputation for music and drama. Many events take place in the Abbey Church and the Performing Arts Centre, which opened in 1999. The centre houses a theatre, green room, dressing rooms, a recital room, music classrooms, music practice rooms, as well as a sound-proofed rock room and a recording studio.

At Worth, everyone is encouraged to contribute to the day to day life of the school, particularly within their house. We provide a supportive environment, where each student is encouraged to realise his full potential. Our lively school offers boys a balanced life-style, incorporating study, sports, activities, personal support and worship. Through our broad approach to education, we believe Worth students acquire the knowledge, attitudes and values needed to make a positive contribution to society throughout their lives.
